David Beckham Turns Down Offer

Leicester manager Sven-Goran Eriksson says he has failed in a bid to sign former England midfielder David Beckham from the Los Angeles Galaxy. Eriksson, whose team is in the bottom half of the English league's second tier, says he spoke to David's agent to see if there was a chance.

Eriksson told Sky Sports: ''The owners want a big signing. It is interesting the players that have been mentioned. I made phone calls to more or less all of them. 'Most of them, they don't really want to come to our league. If we get to the Premier League it will be much easier to get these players. But we are trying and the owners are happy to back me. 'If you talk about Beckham, of course I should take Beckham but I don't think he will go anywhere. I spoke to his agent to see if there was a small chance, but he said it was not possible.''

The Galaxy have said Beckham won't be able to go on loan during the MLS offseason after he was injured during a stint at AC Milan in March.

Beckham, who will be entering the final year of his Galaxy contract when the MLS season resumes in March, was captain of England when Eriksson was in charge of the team from 2001-06.
